SexyBookmarks dir still gives errors in GWT even after chmodding to 777!

  • spritegen and now the new spritegen_default dirs still appear as 403 errors in Google Webmsater Tools, even after setting their permissions to 777.

    What we need to do to make that error go away?

    if i open the wp-content/plugins/sexybookmarks/spritegen/ dir in the browser it says forbidden, i guess that’s because of standard setting in my apache to not list the contents of directories if there is no index file

    nope, i was told that permissions would do it
    really wanted to avoid the robots.txt way

    Fking, first of all, I believe if 777 is set properly, the spritegen directory should not be forbidden. The point of 777 is to make it world-readable.

    Robots.txt is the best way to tell Google to index or not index something.

    it is for sure set correctly, but still goes forbidden, i believe that’s what the server do when there is no index file and it’s set to not show the contents of folders.

    anyway, why google refers to that directory? I see JS calls to it, but why you are calling the directory and not a file within it?

    Fking did you figure it out? Or Shareholic?

    I have the same exact issue, have both folders /spritegen and /spritegen_default… tried changing to 777 and 775, re-saved setting in WP dashboard but still get 404 errors (Fking you said 403?)

    Kinda noobish, but what ‘should’ happen when its working properly?

    Don’t want to go through the robots.txt either

    I went with the robots.txt solution, still waiting for GWT to reflect it.
    It shows 403 for me, cause my server is set to show Forbidden 403, when someone tried to access a folder without an index file in it.

    Still no idea why shareholic plug-in calls those files like that… and causes so much extra trouble to lots of webmasters

    The latest release should fix this issue! Please update ASAP.

    That’s great! Does the last update also includes the 3x times faster +1 button?

    I kinda have to wait for major updates cause updating 10s of sites takes hours ??

    Yes it does ?? This is a major update as it also allows you to specify the path to store /spritegen resources. No more having to re-chmod, etc!

    (but please test the new release on one site first!)

    Cause it’s the one that needs code update.
