• I am using 2.8.6 and the server I am hosting my blog can only have SFTP access, and no FTP access. Now when I am trying to update my plugins or my wordpress installation, I get only the FTP radio buton option while upgrading. Any way to have the SFTP button too, so that I can connect through my SFTP account?

    Thanks in advance ??

  • @mshabaz,

I google’d “wordpress + sftp” and came across several articles on this subject. One such article is:

I already read that article before. The problem is that in my wordpress installation I can’t update/install plugins because I don’t have the radio button for SFTP. I can only see FTP radio button, and I don’t have FTP support on my server. Anyway I can create a radio button that can connect via SFTP?

    Thanks.

That’s exactly what the link above is for, you can’t use SFTP as standard..

You’ll need to make some adjustments on the server level at a minimum to allow updates via SFTP (Secure FTP).

You may wish to ask your host to enable/install the required library. I’m sure if you explained why you needed this additional library loaded then they’d be happy to do it… (i could be wrong of course).
