Thanks for the plugin – good work.
But I have a problem: I am trying to upload a file to a Linux server at the provider IONOS via SFTP. The data for URL, port, username and password are correct – I use the same data for Cyberduck.

Nevertheless, the plugin tells me this error:

    1. try to send backup file to an FTP server …
[05-Jul-2024 10:06:44] ERROR: Cannot connect to FTP server: xxxxxxx.webspace-data.io:22
      [05-Jul-2024 10:06:44] Restart after 33 seconds.

I have set the xxxxxx for data protection reasons, but the correct URL is known and set.

I have with and without the check mark at ” Use explicit SSL FTP connection.” tried. I even tried checking the “IIS server bug” box. I always get the message above.

Could it be that the plugin does not support SFTP?

    Thank you and best regards,

    Günther

    Hi Günther,

Thank you for your kind words and for using our plugin.

BackWPUp currently supports backups to FTPS and plain FTP. Unfortunately, SFTP (backup over SSH port) is not supported at this time. The development of SFTP support is in our feature request list.

Thank you very much. Then it makes sense.

How can I avoid accidentally sending files without encryption? Just by ticking “Use explicit SSL FTP connection”?

If so, I have another feature request: a warning when NO encryption is being used on FTP.

Thank you very much for your support!

    Hi Günther,

    Thank you for your feedback.

Yes, to avoid accidentally sending files without encryption, you can tick the “Use explicit SSL FTP connection” option.

I will make our developers aware of your feature request for a warning when no encryption is being used on FTP.

Thank you very much for your support!

    Best regards,
