I am working with a client on setting up their Siteground site with an SSL cert and went to perform the appropriate steps using SG optimizer. I enabled the HTTPS and after that received an ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS on both the front end and wordpress admin site. I was able to go into the .htaccess and replace it with a backup file. Restoring the front end site. But event after replacing the .htaccess I still recieve a ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS from the …/wp-admin page.

Is there a solution as to why this might crash the admin login?

    Hey there @smalone,

Could you provide a site URL, so we can check that?

    Kind regards,

Your website is not properly configured to work through SSL. Please, make sure you actually have an SSL certificate installed. Then go to the SG Optimizer interface and use the Enable HTTPs option. The plugin will configure your site correctly and set the appropriate rule in the .htaccess file.

If you can’t access the site, first clear any https forcing rules from the .htaccess file.

If you still experience problems with that, kindly contact support through your Help Desk.

All https forcing ahs been removed from the .htaccess file. Both platforms crashed prior to me successfully being able to turn off the SG optimizer plugin. Is there any way to disable the plugin from the cpanel? I think it is still affecting the wp-admin section of the site.

Please disregard the above statement the client was able to get into the admin and turn of sg optimize which solved the admin access issue. Can you clarify what you are seeing in terms of site configuration or provide links with where I can check my configuration against to ensure this crash wont happen again?

You need to make sure you have an active SSL certificate for that website. Issue one using the Let’s Encrypt tool in cPanel / Site Tools. Then just enable the plugin and use the functionality to configure your site through https.

I have run through that option as well and run into problems with the HTTPs and lets encrypt. Both the HTTPS Enforce and External Links Rewrite settings create a ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS with the front end. I have tried to force rewrites within the .htaccess with no success. Is there an alternative work around?
