    Hi All,
My Share Buttons aren’t necessarily counting the shares. It’s obvious in the case of the Facebook button:
    https://johnwhiteillustrator.com/portfolio/news-stalker/

However on the following page, it does register the number of Shares/Likes (not sure which):
    https://johnwhiteillustrator.com/portfolio/newspaper-illustration-education/

Could it be anything to do with the fact that I recently deleted my Facebook account (in between those 2 pages being promoted on Facebook)? What I use now is a new anonymous Facebook account, having transferred my Facebook business pages over to that new FB account.

I really would have thought that I’d be able to see the count number whether I’m logged into Facebook or not. Could I be wrong?

    Thanks ??
    John

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi John!

The share counts at the bottom of the posts aren’t connected to your account, unless when you deleted the account, you also deleted the shares. Were the shares for that post all shares to your Facebook personal profile?

Any shares to pages or other profiles would still appear in the count for the post. Right now, I’m not seeing any shares for that portfolio at all. You can check that here as well:

    https://www.sharedcount.com/

You are correct in thinking that the shares will be visible even when you’re not logged in. Are you certain that this portfolio had share numbers for shares to profiles or pages other than the one that you deleted?

    Let me know!

    Hi Tracy,
The ‘shares’ — if that’s what they are, were on Facebook ‘Pages’ rather than my own profile. And I’ve transferred those Pages to a new anonymous FB account.

You can see that it’s working here—near bottom of page:
    https://johnwhiteillustrator.com/portfolio/newspaper-illustration-education/

To be honest, whether they’re ‘Shares’ or just ‘Likes’ is a source of confusion to me at the best of times. They seem to have the same effect on the count—usually.

I just checked Sharecount.com (thanks) and there are shares registering there.

Would it have anything to do with short-versions of URLs? TinyURL, Bitly, Owly etc.

    ??
    John

I’m seeing counts for that post but still nothing for the post that you asked about:

    https://johnwhiteillustrator.com/portfolio/news-stalker/

There are no shares for that post URL at the sharedcount.com site either.

The button will display the number of shares on Facebook for that specific URL. If the post URL that’s being shared on Facebook is a short-version, then it won’t be counted.

We get this information by checking the specific post URL through Facebook’s API, so if the URL that’s shared doesn’t match what you’re using for the post, then you won’t see any shares.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi Tracy,
Sorry, I forgot to get back to you!

That’s interesting. I thought the system could figure out shortlinks. It might explain why I never see numbers for Twitter. And maybe even be why my Google Analytics rarely registers Twitter visits?

For Jetpack, it all depends upon the link that’s being shared. If you’re sharing a shortlink, then you won’t see any shares.

I’m not sure about Google Analytics to be honest, though it’s certainly possible that it’s related.

Hope that all makes sense now!
