Share count to zero

    Hello, and thanks for your plugin. Recently i had a problem: the share count has been reverted to zero to all post and pages. Now i have deactivated the share (using another plugin for that). I need help to understand what’s happened to the share count of this plugins.

    PS: I did not attach any link because the sharing option is deactivated.

    Hi @ilcontroverso,

    Thanks for using WP Socializer.

    Please note that the “share count” is stored by facebook.
    We use the Facebook API to fetch that count.

    Count can go wrong in two cases

    1. Facebook APP went invalid/disabled/actions to take/keys expired etc.
    2. Website URL changed (i.e http to https in this case in WP Socializer –> settings enable “both http and https share count”)

    My guess is #1. Please do visit your facebook app page as linked above and see if things are good.

    To be sure I have made a totally new Facebook app but the ajax function cannot retrieve the share count and tested deactivating cloudflare cache and rocket loader to be twice sure, with no results, sadly . Could be a modification of the Facebook API policies or, maybe, it cold be needed a specific type of FB app ?

    Can you please share your website with the social buttons active ?

    This would let me see the AJAX request made to get the share count.

    If there is no clue, then you might have to send me the facebook app id and the secret to my contact form. I would have to debug the error thrown by Facebook using that.

    Yes here https://www.ilcontroverso.it/, i have flushed all cache, now it’s activated in all pages (and you will see two share plugins now). For the second one, i will send you the Facebook App IDs via form.

    I noted that, on one page, the share counter is still functional; here the post https://www.ilcontroverso.it/2021/04/12/litalia-e-la-cultura-una-tragicommedia-senza-fine/ , i hope that can be useful. AS last note, all post before 2021 cannot retrieve sharecount because their original URI was from another domain.

    Hi @ilcontroverso,

    I observed the link you have shared and share count is shown as expected.
    So it means the facebook credentials are correct.

    There should not be any issues with other pages.

    As you have mentioned, share count is 0 for other pages because they might have been shared when the URL was different.

    Facebook might have registered the like count against the old URL. WP Socializer does not have any feature to fetch count of old domain URLs.

    You can visit this page https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/like-button/ and enter the URL of any page. The preview should give you the latest like count for that page.
