Share to Facebook thumbnail

  • Hi – I’m having some issues using the social media sharing – specifically to Facebook.

    When in a lightbox, and selecting the share to Facebook button, it will link to my page, however won’t show the thumbnail of the image in the ‘share’ – There isn’t much point in sharing from a lightbox, if the thing I’m sharing isn’t being conveyed – is this just a bug? The system as expected for Google+ (I don’t have a Twitter account to test with).

    The culprit, as it happens, is Facebook here. Apparently on July 18 2017 they stopped supporting a bunch of these attributes, causing “Share” buttons around the world to break. There is an old thread on StackOverflow that talks about this, with an update that specifically calls this out. See the link within the last post.

    I will have to investigate how to get around this.

    Thanks for that – I’m glad its not just me! – Hopefully there is a workaround, because this is a great feature to get some more traffic to my website. I look forward to hopefully a fix!

    Has there been any updates on fixing the Facebook thumbnail issue. I am currently using the Photonic plug-in and Love it, just wish the share would work.

    The issue isn’t with Photonic – the issue is with FB. In its current state FB doesn’t let you cherry pick a specific image to share, so there is nothing Photonic or any other script can do to bypass it.
