We use the “publicize” option in our posts (fauquierlibrary.org) so that they automatically publish to our Facebook and Twitter accounts.

This stopped working about a week or so — we’ve had problems on and off for a while, where we constantly had to reconnect. We thought it was the same old issue, but now, when you go to “Connect your social media accounts” the Publicize Posts section is empty, has a message “Publicize posts requires the Publicize connections to be enabled.” Click Enable and get “There was a problem saving your changes. Please try again.”

Under manage connections there are other services listed, but no Facebook, no Twitter. This error message has been going on for at least a week or so.

  • Hi @pruntela

I’d be happy to help. Could you share your site’s URL?

This is most likely happening because the Jetpack connection to your site is broken; you can check that using the Jetpack Debug tool but we’d prefer taking a look ourselves.

Jetpack should also be connected with your WordPress.com account before using Publicize, so you may want to follow our guide if that’s not the case.

Looking forward to more information from you, but please note that if you prefer keeping your site’s address private, you can reach out to us through this form, and it’s better if you mentioned a link to this thread.

Hi Mehdi, sorry for the delayed response (I didn’t get the notification). Our site’s URL is https://fauquierlibrary.org. It was set up and is hosted by a company called Influx, but they didn’t seem able to assist me.

The FB and Twitter accounts were in there (the staff member who handles those has to randomly reconnect the accounts for some reason), but haven’t ever had this issue where we can’t even get that far (error that something went wrong).

Thanks for your offer of assistance,

    Hello @pruntela

There was an issue with the Publicize, and it was fixed yesterday.

Would you please disconnect and then reconnect Jetpack? You can follow these instructions to do that:

    1. Go to the **Jetpack** menu in your WP-Admin dashboard
    2. Scroll down to find the *Connections* area.
    3. Click *Manage site connection*.
    4. Click **Disconnect** and follow the prompts to complete the disconnection process.
    5. Click **Set Up Jetpack** button to connect your site to WordPress.com again.

This handy guide explains the full process in more detail:

Let me know if you have any questions.

    My best regards,

    Michelle C.

Thanks Michelle. It looks like our vendor Influx set this up because under Connections > Site connection, it just says “Your site is connected to WordPress.com” and is not enabled for me to do anything like disconnect it. I will contact them and ask them to follow these directions and mark resolved (hopefully!) soon.

    Hi Alison,

Publicize connection was the known issue and we deployed a fix yesterday for this issue. Once your site is connected with Jetpack, you can try to enable Publicize again.

    Hi there,

It has been more than one week since we have heard from you, so I’m marking this topic as resolved. But If you have any further questions or need some more help, you’re welcome to reply here or open another thread.

This still doesn’t work. Not sure what changed. XMLRPC works as tested above.

Publicize posts requires the Publicize connections to be enabled

and when I enable it I get

There was a problem saving your changes. Please try again.

    I have disconnected/reconnected JetPack.

    What else can I try?

I apologize for the delayed response. I’ve been asking the person who handles our FB and Twitter accounts to confirm whether WP posts were “publicizing” and they still do not, even after disconnecting the WP account entirely. I reconnected the WP account and am able to manage the connections, successfully add our FB and Twitter accounts (no more weird error, showing “Sharing posts to your FB page” and “Sharing posts to your Twitter feed”), but when our marketing person posts, sees the popup saying it was publishing to our FB and Twitter, nothing shows up on either of those platforms.
