    I have an issue

I have installed Site Kit as an administrator and connected the relevant services.

I am using User Role Editor Plugin to enable / disable what site users see when logged in.

I have created a custom role. However when sharing the analytics view in site-kit with this role, they are unable to view the data – more specifically they get the “connect services” message / page in site kit.

I tested creating a new user, assigned the standard editor role and it worked as it should – the user could accept & view the shared data.

I have done 2 things to try and sort this out

1: I compared all the permissions (line by line) in user role editor for the created role and the editor role – there were no permissions the editor had that the created role did not have.

2: i tried assigning the “editor role” as an additional role to the created role, again this did not change anything.

I am struggling to work out where this issue is coming from. I know the issue is with the role somehow, but the created role has waymore permissions than the editor role and has been shared with the same as the editor role.

I have tried logging out, in and also creating a new user with the created role – no change.

    Any ideas? ??

Thanks for reaching out and expanding on the issue you’re facing. So we can determine more on this, and hopefully allow your users to view data as expected, please share the following:

    1. Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.??
    2. When you mention “more specifically they get the “connect services” message / page in site kit.”, can you share a screenshot of what they’re seeing?
    3. Are you using the Dashboard Sharing feature to share users access, or just creating a user role with the required permissions can view the standard Site Kit dashboard?

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

    HI James,

    Thank you,

1 : I have complete this for you.

2: This is the welcome screen, as if you had just installed site kit. The one that you would sign in with your google account, then connect any services. 100% not the screen they see before accessing the data. (that appeared for a standard role though)

3: I am using the sharing feature within SiteKit – Yes. Specifically just Google Analytics, and i am sharing to the role that the user has.

    Thanks!

Many thanks for the update @dan69420. From reviewing your Site Health information it’s reporting that Analytics is shared via your Dashboard Sharing configurations, so users of your custom role (possibly client-admin), should be able to view this data.

What I suspect is happening is that they have some native administrator roles also, which would indicate why they see an option to set up Site Kit (while also possibly seeing an option for a “View only” version of the dashboard.

To troubleshoot this further, can you share a screenshot or recording of what any of these new role users see when accessing the Site Kit tab? If they see an option to set up Site Kit and also an option to select the “View only” version of the dashboard this may be normal if the users role contains some administrator capabilities. They can select the “View only” version of the dashboard if so.

If you’re looking to ensure your custom role users do not see an option to set up the plugin, you may wish to ensure that your User Role Editor configurations for this role match or closely align with an editor or other role, but not an administrator.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.
