Sharing with Threema fails – due to wrong protocol?

It looks like Threema changed its service url from threema://compose to https://threema.id/compose, see this FAQ page at https://threema.ch/en/faq/url_actions.

It says there that threema://-URL actions were still available but in my case the call diverted to https://compose and failed.

After changing line 16 in /wp-content/plugins/shariff/services/shariff-threema.php from:

$service_url = 'threema://compose';

to

$service_url = 'https://threema.id/compose';

…sharing with Threema works for me.

It turns out that WordPress doesn’t allow the threema:// protocol, see https://developer.www.ads-software.com/reference/functions/wp_allowed_protocols/.

WordPress seems to automatically rewrite threema:// to https:// and the rewritten URL https://compose leads to the “server not found” error.
