    Hello there,

Since approx. 2 weeks now I receive warnings from the (WorPress-Sewcurity-) plugin Shield about 4 files:

    The message says:
“Warning – Unrecognised WordPress Files(s) Detected.”

And the files in questions are the following:
    htdocs/WordPress_02/wp-admin/includes/upgrade.php.orig
    wp-includes/functions.php.orig
    htdocs/wp-includes/class.wp.php
    htdocs/WordPress_01/wp-includes/wp-cd.php
    htdocs/WordPress_01/wp-includes/class.wp.php

As this happens for 2 domains running on 2 different servers (at 2 different providers) and
does not happen with more than 20 other websites I also run it’s quite confusing.

Could be a hacked website, but also a fault in the update process
or communication from server or WordPress/plugins.

Checking Google for information I do not receive any satisfying answer.

Therefore here’s my question to you, dear Shield team:
Are these files part of the latest WordPreess updates? And if yes, may I set Shield to “delete” these?
If these files are needed to run WordPress: Why hasn’t Shield received this information to update their database and avoid false information and panic amongst users?

Thank you very much in advance for a clarification.

    Best regards
    Winfried

    Hello there,

Somebody out there who can tell me if this is okay or is a hack?
Isn’t this important enough to the core team to answer?

Thank you very much in advance for hints.

    Hi Winfried,

    Thanks for contacting us.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

No, it is not a hack.

Unrecognised files are the files that are not part of your WordPress core installation.

In other words, all non-standard files stored inside the WordPress core installation are identified as unrecognised.

The scanner detects Unrecognised files and you decide whether to remove or to keep them.

If you are still unsure which unrecognised files you should keep or delete, please talk with your web host and they’ll help you determine what’s best for your site.
