• I have currently installed WordPress at a free host, and it is running with enough content, and frequent visitors. Now I feel that, sometimes when I load the website, it shows connection terminated, and that I am not getting sufficient uptime.

So, I am planning to shift from the free host to a paid host. Is it possible to take all the existing wordpress installation along with plugin and themes data, and contents, and also the readers I gor via feeds?

Also, is it possible to change the domain name without losing all these ?

    Hello Esmi,
As in the tutorial given above, I clicked on the ‘backup’ link in my cpanel, and I got 2 files, namely, username.tar.gz and username.database.sql.gz.

What should I do with both these files?
Does these files contain all the data that was in the original website, and will i get the original data in the new host ?

This won’t be a step by step for you

But after I switched hosts, I did a writeup of my experience.
Maybe there are some helpful things there for you to consider

The second file (username.database.sql.gz) sounds like your database backup. That should be the one that contains your site’s content with the exception of your theme, plugins and uploaded images (all stored in the wp-content folder).

Now what I think is, let the wordpress software lie in the existing free hosting account, and change the domain name (url) to a new one. How to do that?

If I change the domain name, will it affect the default rss feed and the existing readers of feedburner and publicize:buzzboost ?

I am stressing on the question : how to change the url or domain to a new one, without changing the hosting location ?
