Ship Partial or Split Orders

My business model uses backorder (or pre-ordering) the majority of the time. I am looking for a way to ship partial orders and be able to track it efficiently.
I have used the “Add Meta” option but generating reports to see demand is very challenging!
I’d like to add a “shipped quantity” that would subtract from the original order amount and auto-populate a “Backorder” Cell.
any suggestions?
