Shipping/Billing county is not valid

We’re having an issue with an error on our website, our customers sometimes get “Shipping county is not valid” or “Billing county is not valid”, this is not payment gateway specific, we have both Paypal & Stripe and the error has occurred on both. I’ve just managed to replicate the issue using the Apple Pay button on the basket page on our website.
I’m not sure if this has anything to do with the issue, but…. before the error, I went to the checkout page and all the address details, etc. were blank, I left these blank and then navigated back to the basket page and chose to pay with Apple Pay that’s when the “Shipping County is not valid” error occurred. The interesting thing is after the error, I went to the checkout page and it had auto-filled all my details, the County field was blank (with just “select an option…” shown), so I assume my Apple Pay details don’t include my county…. However, this is an optional field on our site, why would this prevent the payment from going through?
I have seen this “county is not valid” error mentioned on forums before, but none of them seem to have been resolved, so I’d appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks, although when I took the system log all the systems were up to date. And this problem has been around for months, so it’s not new, I don’t expect an update to fix the issue, but I’ll give it a try.
I actually think one of the things it has to do with the user not having the billing/shipping county set up in their details? – I tried to put a payment through myself on ApplePay, but it errored and when I returned back to the basket then went through to the checkout page I could see that (after attempting to pay with ApplePay) the system had automatically filled in all my address details but the county was missing, and even though this is an optional field WooCommerce seemed to error when I tried to pay via ApplePay.
I’ve been trying all sorts of things to try to fix this issue and I think I’ve finally found a work around, I added the following code into my functions.php file and it seems to have done the trick:
function wc_remove_state_field($fields) { unset($fields['state']); return $fields; } add_filter('woocommerce_default_address_fields', 'wc_remove_state_field');This simply removes the “state” (or county) field from the checkout, but it also seems to have removed the requirement for that field to be completed too, which is great, as I have successfully made a purchase on my site using ApplePay.
