• The plugin shipping weight calculations are all wrong.

Royal Mail have a 2kg limit for domestic small parcels and a 20kg limit for domestic medium parcels. The international limit for sending printed papers is 5kg and 2kg for Canada. If a customer adds a quantity that is over the weight limits then it should say no option is possibl,e however, when adding quantities to the cart, the plugin does allow massive quantities to be ordered that are well over the weight limits.

For example, for a book product weighing 1.25kg, 280mmx240mmx20mm. It should only be possible to order a 1 book for a small parcel before the weight limit is moved up to a medium parcel. It should only be possible to order 4 books for a medium parcel.

    DOMESTIC ORDER EXAMPLE
Adding 25 books to the cart makes the order 25kg in weight which is 5kg over the medium parcel shipping weight.  It should not be possible to place an order of this weight via royal mail, but the plugin calculated a price and accepted the order. Adding a quantity of 200 books and it gave a price for a medium parcel which is .not possible

    INTERNATIONAL ORDER EXAMPLE
Weight limit for printed papers to USA is 5kg. Adding a quantity of 20 books sending to New York, USA. This would be 20kg over the weight limit and should not be possible but the cart calculated a price for this weight and allowed the order to process.

    CANADA ORDER EXAMPLE

Weight limit is 2kg for printed papers. Adding a quantity of 5 books making the weight 6.25kg which should not be possible but the cart calculated a price. Adding 200 books to the cart and the cart still calculated a price which is wrong.

None of these combinations should be possible so if a customer places an order for a quantity that is over the weight limit, you will need to go back to the customer and cancel the order or re-calculate the shipping.

    Hello @sb1202

    Thanks for using our plugin.

All of these combination should work because basically the plugin split the order into multiple packages once the first package reach the maximum weight. So the price you are seeing is not the price for one parcel, but multiple parcels for one order.

If these are prices for multiple parcels, how are we supposed to know what the price of those separate parcels are? I asked Royal Mail and they told me the prices your plugin is calculating are not possible.

In my first example above using the international tracked service, if we use your explanation, then this equals a 15kg parcel split into 3 x 5kg parcels (at a 5kg limit) which is £42 per parcel. So 3 x £42 = £126. Your plugin is calculating £300.75 which is a significant difference. Every price your plugin calculates over 2kg is significantly more expensive than the royal mail official prices.

But this plugin does not have international shipping. Are you using the Pro version? If yes, please open a support ticket at https://wpruby.com/submit-ticket/

    No.

I was able to enter any postcode.

See the domestic example, it is still the same issue. You’re saying it is splittng up the orders. It is not possible to place an order for 200 items that is equal to 300kg with royal mail. The weight limit is 5kg and 20kg and the plugin’s calculations are wildly wrong.

These features which appear in your screenshots are part of the Pro version. So if you still need help please open a support ticket and I will be happy to help. I will mark this as resolved as it is not related to this plugin.

I can assure you it is not. Here’s the screenshot.

Would you please send me one concrete example? What are the items weight and dimensions, quantity?

    See screenshots.
    1 x book at 1.5kg with dimenions 275mm x 140mmx15mm
    Price £30.

Royal Mail has a weight and size limit for medium parcels of 20kg per parcel, therefore the plugin should state no shipping options are available when the items go over 20kg. Instead, it is displaying prices that are not possible.

Your plugin is allowing me to enter 200 items = 300kg. This is not possible.

How is someone supposed to determine the cost of each parcel?

    In eaxmple attached – we have to manually calculate shipping for 200 items = £187.84 = 15 x 20g parcels = £12.47 per parcel.

Royal mail’s price for a 20kg parcel using this same service is £10.99

    Hello Waseem,

I’ve replicated this on 3 different staging sites and it’s displaying incorrect prices and packages that are not possible. I’ve disabled the plugin because it is not reliable at all.

As you are using the current October prices, can I suggest you work through real examples on the Royal Mail website. Something is clearly wrong with the plugins calculations.

    Thread Starter sb1202

Why is this marked as resolved when the plugin in broken and still hasn’t been updated?

    Plugin Author Waseem Senjer

    (@waseem_senjer)

I’ve said multiple times that the plugin does split the order into multiple packages if the weight exceeds 20kg for each package. If that does not suit you, then I have no solution for preventing customers to order more than 20kg. This is how shipping plugins work. If one item is weighing more than 20kg, then the plugin won’t show shipping prices.

If you have any other issue other than the 20kg limits, please let me know, I will be happy to help.
Yes, the plugin uses the October 2023 prices.

“I’ve said multiple times that the plugin does split the order into multiple packages if the weight exceeds 20kg for each package.”

I’ve contacted Royal Mail. They made it very clear – their shipping options cannot and do not spilt orders in to 20kg packages OR impose 20kg limits.

Your plugin is broken and the price calculations are wrong.

If two items are in the order, the first one is 20kg, and the other is 5kg. Then the plugin will split the order into two packages. The first package is 20kg, and the second package which will be 5kg. And yes, Royal Mail has a limit of 20kg per package. As you can see in the attached screenshot.
