Hi there, just installed 4.1.3 of this plugin and loving it so far. Have just run into one glitch – the shipping charges are being dropped by Paypal. I can put an item in the cart and the shipping charge shows up there just fine, with the correct total. But when I click the “checkout with Paypal” button and head over to the Paypal interface, the balance listed there is just for the main product, no shipping charge added.

Have I configured something wrong? I am use the base shipping value with a trigger “shipping” of “0.0001” on the actual item to pick up the base shipping amount.

Hi change the following value to “0.001”. See if that helps you.

You can read more about it from the following link How the Shipping Cost Calculation Works.

Hm, thanks for the suggestion but changing the shipping on the item to “0.001” still didn’t work – shipping charge still being dropped when you move to the Paypal screen. Any other ideas?

I’ve found the problem, I think – it’s that I have changed the currency in the main settings page from USD to CAD. We would like to charge the amount and the shipping in Canadian Dollars.

If I change the currency on the main settings page to “USD”, everything works as expected, with shipping carrying over to Paypal. Setting it to “CAD” means the shipping is dropped.

Does this mean Canadian Dollars aren’t supported? I thought I had read in the tips that CAD was a valid currency for this plugin.

You can use any currency that your PayPal account supports.

This is happening due to your PayPal account setup. You likely have a certain currency setup in your account so now when a transaction is sent to PayPal (for your account) in a different currency, PayPal’s profile based shipping profile fails to see it and drops it.

So you’re saying that any shopper, at any time, might have the shipping dropped off due to Paypal configurations that are outside our control? I’m in Canada, and I have a Canadian Paypal account, and it’s still dropping shipping when in Canadian dollars. I checked inside my Paypal account and CAD is an officially supported currency, and there doesn’t seem to be any flag that would be required to “turn on” CAD support on the Paypal side.

We can’t put the shop up on the site if half the people using it will magically get free shipping. I cannot believe that other sites that use Paypal for checkout just accept that some of their clients will get free shipping because of a Paypal setting.

Just thought of something else – the actual charge for the actual item was also in CAD and going through fine. So clearly my Paypal account supports CAD. I think there is a bug where the shipping charge is not passing the correct currency code to Paypal, and the mismatch is causing the shipping to be dropped.

@snowbelly what shortcode are you adding? What are your current plugins settings?

    Thread Starter snowbelly

    (@snowbelly)

    Here’s the shortcode:
    [wp_cart_button name="Bedtime Cards" price="24.99" shipping="0.001"]

Current settings (I’ve included what I think is pertinent – let me know if you need to know more!):

    Currency: CAD
    Currency Symbol: $
    Base Shipping cost: 18.00
Free shipping for orders over: blank
    Must collect shipping address: checked
Use paypal profile based shipping: unchecked

Automatic redirection to checkout page: checked, cart page URL provided
Reset cart after redirection to return page: checked
    Hide shopping cart image: checked

It looks correct to me. Can you enable debug mode and check the log file after you carry out a test.

    (@snowbelly)

I have the log – I feel a little nervous posting it here, it seems to have a lot of personal info in it. Can I email it to you somewhere?

It’s okay I did receive your message :). Your log file says that everything is processed correctly.

Just one more question, what PayPal account do you have set up?

    Thread Starter snowbelly

    (@snowbelly)

I didn’t mention before but I had changed the purchase price of the actual item to 0.01 before the test, so it wouldn’t charge my credit card the full amount. According to Paypal, I definitely only paid 0.01, not the $18.01 that I should have been charged if the shipping went through.

I am using my regular Paypal account for testing, it’s not a sandbox – is that what you wanted to know?

Is your regular PayPal account a Premier or Business Account?

    (@snowbelly)

I think it’s a business account – I can use it to generate invoices.
