So why do shipping costs change when editing VAT or its settings? We have products that have 25,5 VAT and 14 VAT (ALV in Finnish) tax rates. At the moment, when you add a product to the cart, the total amount of tax is not correct, because it should calculate tax based on which VAT category item belongs and then take the same VAT from the shipping cost. Shipping should always be €5,90.

At the moment, the tax percentage on the delivery and the product is always calculated at 25.5, because we can’t get the settings set up so that the right amount of tax is paid even on 14% of the products. It should also be noted that in Finland, the tax rate for postage is always determined based on the higher tax rate, i.e., if there is one 25.5% product and one 14% tax rate product, the tax rate for postage is 25.5%

Mail package price drops again from 5,90€ to 5,36€ after checking shipping option.

The problem at the moment is that the price of postage decreases automatically if you select the button “Delivery” in the tax category “Reduced rate”, although the price change does not appear to be in the settings of the shipping costs themselves, where it is set as tax-free (4.70e) and the tax status is selected as “taxable”.

    Hello asnac,

    Thank you for your reply.

The initial shipping cost of 4.70€ is subject to a 14% VAT.
    4.70 + 14% VAT = 5.358.
    Which is rounded to 5.36€.
This is expected behavior when VAT is applied.

Please correct me if I am wrong.
Looking forward to your response. ??

    Best regards.

So if I understand correctly, in our case, there is no solution for the shipping costs to always remain at 5.90€ regardless of what VAT is applied?

    Hello asnac,

    Thank you for your reply.

If you want to keep the shipping cost fixed at 5.90€, you can set up a Flat Rate shipping method with the Tax Status set to “None” instead of “Taxable.”

This way, VAT will only be applied to the products, and your shipping rate will stay constant at 5.90€, regardless of the VAT applied to the items in the cart.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us again if you have more questions or concerns.

We can’t do that because then shipping is not taxed. Shipping also has to be taxed, and the cost has to stay constant at 5,90€ no matter if there are 14% VAT items, 25.5% VAT items, or both.

    Hello asnac,

    Thank you for your reply.

    I understand your concern.

In that case, I would recommend opting for a custom-coded solution, as it’s not possible to handle this scenario within the core WooCommerce functionality.

You can find skilled developers at Codeable or WooExperts who can help create a tailored solution for your needs.

    I hope this helps.

    Best regards.
