    Hello Community,

I’m getting HAMMERED on shipping costs and it’s eating away at my profits when I sell things in my online store. For example, someone bought one of my heavyweight hoodies, size Large, shipped to Los Angeles, CA. My website only charged them $2.92 dollars for shipping but once I got to the post office, it actually ran me $13!

I’ve watched various YouTube videos and tutorials but I just can’t seem to catch up when it comes to properly applying shipping costs to my products.

How do I set shipping costs so they apply to distance?

I hope I clearly explained this crucial dilemma of mine!

    Thank you!

  • Hi – it does ruin the joy of a sale when you get killed on the shipping! I set up one store that ships paint across the US, and we set up WooCommerce shipping, which is a plug-in. All postage charges are based on weight, and the postage is discounted for you, so you actually cover your time putting it in the box. The plug-in calculates price based on the distance, or you can choose flat-rate shipping. You just need to be detailed in entering weights and box sizes. Also add in cost of packaging and labels – they add up, and customers don’t usually mind paying $1.50 or so for handling.

    Hope this helps!

@jthairst Can you share more details about your current shipping setup? It sounds like you have implemented some kind of live rate method. That type of shipping calculation isn’t included in WooCommerce out of the box, so I’m thinking you might be using a separate plugin that adds that feature.

Can you specify what shipping methods you have configured within your shipping zones? Where is that $2.92 rate coming from?

@fhaps I’m actually not sure where the $2.92 shipping rate is coming from. I actually didn’t have time to figure it out so I got someone on Fiverr to look into it and that’s what they came up with. Smh
