My client has a product in their store that they listed as free shipping. We’ve noticed, however, that if customers try to purchase anything that comes with standard shipping costs at the same time that they try to purchase the special product, the cart will refuse to calculate shipping or accept their billing/shipping address. Is there a way to fix this so that shipping is only free if the item is bought separately to keep this from happening?

Hi there! Happy to help out.

Can you please elaborate on how this has been done:

My client has a product in their store that they listed as free shipping.

Does your client use a plugin or a bit of code to make this work? By default, free shipping requires one of four prerequisites, and setting specific products to having no shipping fee requires additional plugins/code. In order to help you out further, we’ll need to know what’s been done ??

    Thanks in advance!

For this specific product, there is a restriction in place to disable all shipping methods.

There is a Shipping Class set up and labeled as Free Shipping. The product is listed under that shipping class and then there is a restriction on the product to exclude all UPS shipping method instances.

Hey @wamedia100, how is that restriction applied? Through custom code, plugin, or something else?

    Thanks!

There is a “Free Shipping” class created in the WooCommerce settings. Then, in the product, there is a restriction placed to disable all UPS shipping options from the item. I’m assuming there is something like this in place on the backend (since the server wouldn’t let me add the zip file for this plugin because it already exists there).

I’m not sure if removing the UPS shipping instances is what is causing this issue, or if a different solution might be needed?

    Hi @wamedia100

The setting within the product that restricts the Free Shipping method is not a default functionality build within WooCommerce. You can get support for this feature from WooCommerce.com if you used the recommended Conditional Shipping and Payments extension:

    https://woocommerce.com/products/conditional-shipping-and-payments/

You’ll want to contact the plugin author for support with the plugin/feature you’re currently using.
