Shipping Tax applied randomly

  • Hi,

    I’m in Australia and apply GST to all products and shipping. Everything was working well until I updated to Woocommerce 9.7.1. Since updating to Woocommerce 9.7.1, the tax on shipping is randomly being charged on some orders but not others. I’ve searched the forum and haven’t found similar occurrences.

    There is no common product or location for orders that are not charged shipping tax and I cannot replicate the problem on test orders.

    My theme (blocksy) and other plugins are not conflicting. I have always used Woocommerce Weight Based Shipping. All plugins are up to date. Cache has been cleared.

    My ‘Tax Options’ settings include:

    In Woocommerce Setting\General: Taxes are enabled and the Store address = Australia

    In Woocommerce Settings\Tax\Tax Options: prices entered are inclusive of tax, calculate tax based on customer shipping address, shipping tax class = standard, display prices in shop, cart & checkout = including tax.

    In Woocommerce Settings\Tax\Standard Rates: Country Code is AU, rate=10%, name=GST, priority 1, tax rate applied to shipping is ticked.

    My products are not affected and show GST correctly (tax status=taxable, tax class=standard).

    Your thoughts would be appreciated.

    I understand you are facing this issue. Since the problem occurs randomly and cannot be replicated on test orders, I need more details to investigate further.

    Additionally, share your site’s System Status Report by pasting it into https://pastebin.com and sharing the link here.

    The order notes are no different to any other order, showing payment, fees and stock adjustments. No errors are displayed at all. Further investigation suggests that the shipping amount is shown correctly in the cart, however, the shipping tax is potentially not actually charged during payment (?)

    This is happening to about 1 in 4 orders since updating to Woocommerce 9.7.1.

    Relevant system info:
    WordPress V6.7.2, PHP 8.2.27, Woocommerce 9.7.1, Litespeed server
