    Hello,

I’m trying to get the shipping costs to have a different tax than the product but I can’t.
If I have 21% shipping cost and 0% for a product (because it is an exportation), how do I get only the shipping cost to carry 21%? I’ve tried several ways and I can’t, it applies to the entire order.

    Thank you for your help!
    Best Regards

  • Hi @patriquin

    Thanks for reaching out!

I understand that you want to apply a 21% shipping tax for an order while the product has 0% tax (due to exportation), correct?

To achieve this, you will need to create two (2) tax rates: Standard Rate and Reduced Rate. Please follow the steps about Setting up tax rates with the following details below:

    For Standard Rates:

    • Country Code: The country where you want to apply the 21% shipping tax.
    • Tax Rate: 21
    • Tax Name: Export Tax
    • Shipping: Check the box to apply this tax rate to shipping.

    For Reduced Rates:

    • Country Code: The country where you want to apply the 0% product tax.
    • Tax Rate: 0
    • Shipping: Leave the box unchecked.

Now, you need to assign the Reduced Rate class to your products. Go to Products > Select and Edit the Product > Tax Class > Reduced Rate

By following these steps, your shipping cost should carry a 21% tax, and the product should have a 0% tax for the specified country. Please note that you may need to adjust the tax settings according to your specific tax rules and regulations.

    Output:

I have a Flat Rate fee of $10 for shipments to California, US. You can see on the image above that it was taxed amounting to $2.10 or 21%. The cost of the product amounting to $120.00 was not taxed here.

    Hope this helps!

    Hello, @xue28 !

    Thank you for the answer.
I know that option, the problem is that the products have 21% for other areas. There are only specific areas where the product has 0% and shipping has 21%. Everything else is always 21%. How can i do this?

    Thank you!

    Hello, @xue28

Yes, excuse me, I’ll explain it to you again in another way.
The shop is in Spain and in our country we have 21% VAT for the type of products that this shop sells. If we sell to countries in the European Union, 21% VAT is also used on both the product and the shipment. BUT, if we send to countries that are not part of the EU, the product is considered an export and has 0% VAT, however, the shipping cost must be 21% VAT because it is a national service with this 21%.

The problem is that I can’t configure those countries with 0% for the product and 21% for the shipping cost. Either everything appears at 0% or at 21%.

    Hope this help you! ??

    Thank you!

    Hello @patriquin,

    Thank you for the clarification!

I see what you mean here, if you enter a percentage it will be applied for both product and shipping, if left empty, the same story.

I believe you can achieve this by creating two shipping zones, one for the EU and another for Spain then apply the tax as a surcharge on the cost for the EU zone.

    Example:

    Link to image: https://d.pr/i/kYn3lt

    20 + [fee percent="17"]

The 20 is the cost of shipping and the 17% is a surcharge based on the total order cost.

    Hello, @babylon1999

    I’m sorry I couldn’t answer earlier.
This is not a solution for us, it cannot be seen as a surcharge, by law we must identify on the invoice what each thing is and the surcharge that you indicate (which would be our VAT) must be identified as VAT, not as a surcharge on a shipping rate.
I just want the shipping zones with VAT 0% on the product, to have VAT 21% on the shipping cost and be shown like this.
I already have different shipping zones and is not working.
    Thank you for your help!

    Hello @patriquin,

Sorry to disappoint, but I wasn’t able to find any plugin to add a tax for the shipping only.

If you have some PHP experience, consider adding a cart surcharge and defining it as a tax. This discussion may serve as a helpful starting point: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/72470619/woocommerce-custom-tax-function

Alternatively, you can hire a WooExpert to help you with this as custom solutions are not within our scope of support.

    Cheers!
