    Hi Woocommerce team,

On this shop there are products with two types of taxes. A reduced tax rate of 7% for the flowers and 19% tax rate for other products. Regardless which of the tax rates are applied to the order, the shipping should always be at 19% taxes.

For this I created a custom tax rate “shipping” with 19% taxes and chose this as the shipping tax rate as well as checked the box for shipping inside the tax rate and unchecked the other ones for the shipping

But here comes the problem: As soon as I order a product with the tax rate of 7% this rate also gets applied to the shipping cost instead of the regular shipping tax rate I created.

I don’t understand why this is happening, because logically this setup should work as I described above.

Did I misconfigure something or is this a bug and can someone help me with this?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hello @agenturanmut ,

It’s completely understandable that the tax can be confusing at times.

Regarding shipping tax rates, WooCommerce follows this rule –

    1. If you have a product with the Standard rate in the order, it will be used for the shipping regardless if this rate is high or low (this should answer the question of 19% tax regardless of other tax rated products being on the cart)

    2. If you don’t have a product with the Standard rate in the order, then the first rate found in the Additional tax class section will be used for shipping

To make sure that the shipping tax is properly applied, you have to organize the custom tax rates from highest to lowest order.

To know this in detail with screenshots and example see this – Shipping Tax Class

    I hope this information helps.

    Thank you ??

    Hi @rur165,

i tried to set it up like you described and like in the doc you sent, but unfortunately it still doesn’t work. (see here: https://imgur.com/a/Ndh4TXa)

Like I said, Shipping always has to be 19%. It doesn’t matter which tax rate is in the order. In my test order I have products only with 7% tax and the shipping also gets 7% tax, which is wrong because it needs to be 19%.

Is there a way to do this?

    Hello @agenturanmut ,

According to your screenshot, you have selected the correct tax settings. Once you select the default shipping tax on Shipping tax class then only this tax class will work on shipping rates. However, make sure that your tax settings and shipping tax match the country, state, or postcode.

If you have other plugins on your site, please try only with WooCommerce. Deactivate all plugins and switch to a default theme during the test.

Let me know how it goes.

    Thank you ??
