    Hello,

I set the role of a user to Shop Manager, when they log in they cannot set Primary terms in the product category screen (in edit product), the administrator can.
I asked ChatGPT and it said to check for capabilities related to managing terms or taxonomies (like manage_categories, edit_terms, assign_terms, etc.).
I used User Role Editor to check these permissions and they were already marked.

    What should I do?

    Thanks

    Hello Oded Talmon,

Thank you for contacting Woo support.

The Shop Manager role should be able to manage all settings within WooCommerce and create/edit products. You do not need the User Role Editor plugin for this.

To better understand the problem, could clarify what you mean by Primary terms?
    Are you seeing any errors?
Sharing a screenshot will be helpful.

Looking forward to your response. ??

    Best regards.

    Hello @doublezed2

Thank you for replying to my question.
To clarify, I don’t see any errors and I haven’t changed any user role settings since I installed this site.

This is what I am seeing logged in as the Shop manager:

This is what I am seeing logged in as the Administrator:

    What should I do?

    Thanks

    Hey, @odedta!

Do you mind sharing exactly where you are seeing this option to make the term primary?
From the screenshot you send, this seems to be from the Appearance > Menu page, but I want to be sure, as I do not see this option on my end as the administrator.

To confirm, “make term primary” would be to make the category the default one?
If so, are you able to do this as a shop manager on Products > Categories?
You should be able to see the option “make default” when hovering over a category there.

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Have a wonderful day!

    Hello Carol,

The screenshot I sent is showing Product categories and is visible when you edit an product on your shop. It has nothing to do with the menus on the site.
Making a term primary means it will be the primary term out of all other selected categories and is important for SEO purposes mostly.

It’s pretty simple, login as a Shop manager and edit a product, you will see that it’s impossible to set any product category as the main category.

    Thanks!

    Hi @odedta,

We don’t see this on our end. Perhaps it is added by another plugin (for example, an SEO plugin)?

If you’d like to share a list of plugins that are installed on your site (you can copy this from the system status report, for instance), we might be able to help you identify the source. Or, you could do some troubleshooting: though we’re not looking for a conflict, as such, following the conflict testing steps might help you identify which plugin is adding this.

Once you know where this is coming from, you can reach out to the support crew for the appropriate plugin ??

    Hello,
I’ve made sure to disable all plugins but Woocommerce and I’m using the default Hello Elementor theme, the issue is still there.

I do not wish to post the system report here as that is private date, where could I send it to?

    Thanks

I’m not sure there is any need to send that across at present: I was really only suggesting it as a convenient source from which you could copy and paste your list of plugins. Since you’ve determined that the issue persists even when the only plugin present is WooCommerce, though, we no longer need to look at that.

I’m using the default Hello Elementor theme, the issue is still there.

How about with a default theme, such as Storefront or even Twenty Twenty-Four? Again, we don’t see this on our end, so it would seem like something other than WooCommerce is adding it.

Please feel free to reach out. I’ll mark this thread as solved temporarily but you can reply, and we will proceed with further troubleshooting once you get back from your vacation.

    Looking forward to your reply.
