WordPress is fine, Theme (the7) is fine and I just installed WooCommerce to get my shop running. Everything appears fine so far, created some products, it does add to cart, does checkout fine too. Its just the JPGs on the front Shop page – they are fuzzy/low rez like its pulling from a thumbnail or something.

When I created each product, I added the “featured image” for each one (which is the one showing up on the main Shop page. The JPGs I uploaded are 500×500 so should be fine for the size they are showing on the shop main page.

    Shop URL is https://www.paulalfordphotography.com/shop/

    Thanks for any help

  • What size have you got set at Admin page > WooCommerce > Settings > Products tab > Display > Single Product Image? Should be 500 x 500. If you change these values, you need to:

Thanks Lorro. Was set to 300×300 for single product (default when installed).. just changed it to 500×500 and check hard crop. Installed regenerate thumbs plugin and now running that.

Will I need to do anything for NEW products I add now ? I plan on keeping the new ones to 500×500 also.

    Thanks for your help !!

Product images look good but catalog image thumbnails could do with their size setting changed also.

For new products should be OK, but suggest sticking to square images to avoid unwanted crops.

This regenerate thumbs is still running (taking forever) so I sure don’t want to do this regenerate again.

So the images on the main SHOP page are the ones I was trying to change to begin with… so I still need to change the other display/product settings to all be 500×500 ? All 3 settings ?

    Catalog
    Single
    Product

Wow, this regenerate thumbs is crunching on ALL images everywhere…and now the CPU resource warnings are coming. Is there another plugin that ONLY regenerates the select few images you are messing with ?

    Hi Lorro
This regenerate process just finally finished and that didn’t fix the low rez images on the main shop page. Should I change all 3 settings (catalog, Single, Product) to 500px ?

I don’t want to run this regenerate thumbs again though…the ISP will send me another nasty email on over usage of CPU.

The alternatives for the catalog images are to to leave them fuzzy or increase the number of categories per row to make the images smaller, otherwise I think the catalog image setting has to be 500 x 500. I don’t know if you have to regenerate the thumbnails again if they are exactly the same size as the product images. Change the setting without a regen and see what happens. But if you must you must. Ultimately ask your host if he wants you to find another host… there are plenty.

The product thumbnails are showing at 90 x 70 so no point changing them.

There are other regen plugins but personally I wouldn’t go to the trouble of trying them if I already had one that works.

OK, thanks. Not sure where the setting for how many “categories per row” is. ?? Have to look again for that one.

Thanks again for your expertise Lorro !!

As a follow up for anyone in the future …

I added a new product after the Product-Display-Catalog to 500px and the new images shows sharp on the main Shop page. For the low rez images for the existing products that were already created…the regenerate thumbs plugin didn’t seem to fix those. I ended up going into each existing product and deleting the Feature Image, deleted from the media gallery too, then re-uploaded that same 500px image and it shows sharp on the Shop page now. Fortunately I only had a few to do.
