• A friend of mine has a Shopify store and paid some company to create him a website but he’s not happy with it. He asked me to change it but I’m not super familiar with Shopify and couldn’t figure out how to manipulate the template the other company used for what he wanted to do so I offered to create him a new site on WordPress.

All his products and stuff are already in Shopify.

I use BeaverBuilder to create my sites. I’ve never created an eCommerce site before so new to this whole experience.

MY QUESTIONS: Should I use Shopify plugin and just have him continue to put his products in Shopify? Should I export everything from Shopify to WooCommerce? What’s is the best option (long term) for both myself and him?

If you are not well experienced with WooCommerce and able to support your friend in near-realtime, you should consider just using one of the Shopify intergration plugins. E-commerce is not easy nor for the faint of heart. There’s a lot to the WooCommerce ecosystem and using your friend’s site as a way to learn that is probably not a great idea.

Don’t let me discourage you from learning Woo… set up a small site of your own to “play” with.

    Thanks for the reply Steve.

That kind of was my idea actually haha was utilizing his site for a learning experience.

He sells a lot on Amazon and the website is sort of just a side aspect of it that’s he’s not super concerned about since most of his sales come from Amazon so I told him that I’d never done an e-commerce site but this would be a good learning tool. I run my own marketing agency and have developed more than enough WordPress websites for clients (which is one of the reasons I use Beaver Builder, along with Avado, so that when completed, it’s user-friendly enough to pass off if the client doesn’t want to utilize my company for updates) so not a novice in any sense.

It’s a situation where we’re helping each other out, I get the learning experience and he gets a new custom website.

Knowing that, would you still recommend sticking with a Shopify plugin and also, with that being said, what plugins would anyone recommend for utilizing Shopify or migrating Shopify?

OK, in that case, go for it! Build it “off to the side” on a staging/dev site. It’s a good skill to have.
