shopping cart and child theme

  • Hello,
    I’m trying this theme on a local woocommerce (latest version) site and i state that there no cart icon displayed on the frontend.
    Is there a way to do so that this icon appears somewhere one the shop ?
    For example in the main navigation menu.

    also, can I know how to get the child theme to work ( I tried to create one but did not override main theme functions and styles).

    I need to create a php file to work on enabling paypal so need chaild theme badly.
