Shopping cart not showing items purchased

Several customers have noted that when they put items in the cart, the product page says that the item has been added, but nothing shows up in the cart. Also, there is no way to get directly to the cart from the product page. I’m using an Origami theme, so I don’t know if it’s a theme related issue or what. It doesn’t happen all of the time, and if you wait a while then the items do show up, but that’s costing me sales and frustrating my customers. Would appreciate any help you have.
