Short Description Not Syncing For Variation Products

Can you please confirm for me that, apart from the short description missing from the product data that gets synchronized, the product details are otherwise complete?

I’m checking with my team to see if we’re aware of any issues about the sync of a short description with variable products, though in the meantime, it would be helpful to know if the rest of the data is synchronizing appropriately.

Hi Julie,

Everything else is syncing. Its syncing normal description instead of short, even when i have selected short from options.

The issue is that the “short description” for a variable product is not the “short description” that one would think it would be. Edit the variable product, expand the variations to observe that Facebook for WooCommerce has created a new field located immediately below the variation’s “Description” that is called “Facebook Description”. This will be where you need the “short description” you need in the Facebook details.

How to use that new field to complete the variable product details on Facebook:

1 – Check the box – There is a box to check when you want that description to be transferred to the Facebook details so you will want to check that “Include in Facebook sync” box.

2 – Fill in the “Facebook Description” – put in that field the information you need to see in the Facebook details.

3 – Press the Save changes box and Update the product.

Yes, you will need to make sure the information is completed in every variable product’s variables.

On the Facebook for WooCommerce settings, be sure to have the Product description sync set to “Short description”. Save if you changed it. Sync.

Hi – That’s impossible to do with 2k+ products. Google feed plugin for example takes the main product short description. is there any code I can add to fix this so it takes the main product short description?

@basselenab – Becky’s correct, however we do have a snippet that can set the description to the parent description.

We’d recommend using the free Code Snippets plugin to add the snippet. You can download Code Snippets here:

I should note that we should be passing this automatically with our 2.0.0 version.

Sounds reasonable, but I will run this by my technical guy and see if he will address this for me. I tend to avoid doing the coding when I can so in the meantime, I am moving ahead with this paste approach.

It will be a welcomed improvement for the 2.0.0. If I get the assistance on making this a coding change prior to the release would that just need to be turned off?

Sure, if you use the free Code Snippets plugin, you can enable and disable snippets from that plugin’s menu, so you could turn it off before updating the Facebook plugin.
