Every time I upgrade Shortcodes Ultimate, the shortcodes change.

So the first time I set up a box on a page using SU, the shortcode was [box]. But when I upgraded to whatever version was next, suddenly, my boxes were showing as plain text. I added a new box to see if there was something wrong with my current shortcode and it made new boxes with the shortcode [su_box}. Changed all the boxes on my pages to [su_box] and they were fine again.

With this last upgrade, I’m back to the boxes showing as plain text and _now_ the plug-in is creating new boxes with the code [box]. So I have to go through all my pages and change my current shortcodes from [su_box] back to [box] to get them to show up properly.

The box is the only thing I’m using with enough consistency to see this issue with.

I’ve made no custom CSS or other changes to the plug-in other than updating it. Which I dread since I just know I’ll have to fix all my pages again.

Is there something I can set in the CSS or some place that would keep this consistent even if there is a bug in the plug-in? Everything I see in the box CSS file says su_box, so I don’t understand why that shortcode stopped working.

The issue is he added a “prefix” setting in settings. I understand why so as not to interfere with other shortcodes but I’m not using other shortcodes and it automatically broke all of my codes immediately on update. Should have only allowed implementation at our option. Fix is to delete the prefix (or add it). See Shortcodes->Settings-Shortcodes Prefix.

I tried several versions on his github site but all of them were broken in one way or another or at least didn’t work for me. The carosaul was broken (showing text instead of gallery), the shortcode generator wouldn’t generator anything, just spin; I had to go back to a backup and get version 3.9 which worked great like it used to. Here’s the download link if anybody else needs it:

To stop from being bugged by update nags, after you install it, go to installed plugins->short code ultimate->edit, and edit the version number to something high (I just added a one in front of it so it’s 13.9.5).

Of course, this is risky as any security updates won’t be implemented. But it’s a patch until I can figure something out. I have the codes throughout my site so have to get rid of them and use something else.

Also risky is downloading plugins from non-primary sources. Or not testing updates on a test site before implementing them on a live site.

Please don’t link to non-primary sources of plugins hosted on www.ads-software.com. Previous versions of plugins are available on the plugin’s developers page.

For this plugin you will find previous versions at: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/shortcodes-ultimate/developers/
