• Hi, looks promising but I ran into a confusing issue: when I use the shortcode, there is no WPHelpful form shown, unless both the options Yes, I want to show feedback widget on this page and Automatically add WPHelpful to enabled content if shortcode isn’t used are checked. But then, there are two forms on the same page: one at the shortcode location and one at the bottom of the page.

It seems the shortcode is kind of useless unless you want two forms on one page. And the only way to get exactly one form (not two or none), is to check both options and not use the shortcode…

    Is that by design?

That sounds like a bug from the first version, I cannot replicate this on the latest version.

If you have auto-add selected, and you use the shortcode, the plugin doesn’t auto-add it again.

Hmmm, that’s even more confusing… On https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wphelpful/ it sais version 1.0.0, in the dev log https://plugins.trac.www.ads-software.com/log/wphelpful/ the latest entry is about version 1.0.1 but I am now running version 1.2.0.

I suppose you are self-hosting the plugin and included an update check to poll your server instead of WP.org? You might want to consider doing this only when users have added a license key for the Pro version… It’s not considered good practice for free plugins to “call home” without people knowing about it.

In any case, this explains the bug. After installing from WP.org I was running version 1.0 but since then, the plugin received the upgrade from your server to 1.2. And indeed, the bug has gone ??

@ravanh Thanks for the heads up. I thought we had disabled the update check for the free version, but maybe we had missed something? You are correct that it should only “call home” if it is the Pro version.

But the free version at https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wphelpful/ is still at 1.0.0 so I guess I’m happy ??
