• I’ve tried the shortcode using DESC and ASC, but in both cases the order in which the events are displayed remains unchanged.

    [ecs-list-events order=’DESC’]
    [ecs-list-events order=’ASC’]

The page in question is at: https://mountainlaurel.org/testeventscalendarsequence-page/

I’d like to simply have the earlier events appear at the top of the list, and the later events appear at the bottom. Right now they’re showing up in the reverse order.

By default the order is ASC (earlier events at the top of the list), have you tried removing the order parameter altogether?

If that doesn’t work another plugin or your theme might be overriding the way the events are ordered. You can try disabling all other plugins except The Events Calendar and The Events Calendar Shortcode and switching to a theme like TwentySixteen, then see if the issue still happens. Make sure you have a backup though in case there are any issues deactivating and reactivating the plugins or theme.

    Thanks Brian!

I tried removing the order parameter, but it didn’t have any effect on the sequence. The only event-related plugins that are installed on the site are the Events Calendar (by Modern Tribe) and The Events Calendar Shortcode (by Event Calendar Newsletter).

I’m using a Genesis child theme, and I don’t think that they would have any sequence functions that are different from TwentySixteen.

I’m surprised that Modern Tribe doesn’t have a settings option to simply list events from top to bottom in a chronological order. I was excited to find the Events Calendar Shortcode plugin, as it seemed like it would allow me to reverse Modern Tribe’s default sequence.

Do you know of any other plugins that I could try, that would be compatible with Modern Tribe’s Events calendar plugin?

I would definitely try and switch to a default theme like TwentySixteen to see if that resolves the issue, a theme could definitely be modifying queries that could affect the order of events.

Modern Tribe does have their Pro version which I believe includes some other shortcodes: https://theeventscalendar.com/product/wordpress-events-calendar-pro/

Thanks, but my client wants this school’s website to remain on the Genesis theme that they purchased, not Twenty Sixteen. Unless temporarily switching to Twenty Sixteen is going to help pinpoint the issue for getting it to work on the Genesis theme, we’ll have to live with the issue.

Are you suggesting that purchasing Modern Tribe’s Pro Version will fix the problem?

If you’re able to switch to TwentySixteen temporarily and disable other plugins (apart from this and The Events Calendar) and see if the issue is resolved, you can then re-enable them one by one to see which one causes it to break. It then may be something I can find a workaround for on my end, otherwise the developers of that plugin or theme will need to avoid modifying queries they shouldn’t be.

The Modern Tribe Pro version also has some shortcodes (since you were looking for alternatives) but if another plugin or the theme is modifying the queries for events, chances are they will have the same issue.

Let me know if you’re able to confirm which plugin or theme causes it to break and can go from there!

    I tried the following:

1.) Switching a second website (that’s normally set to the WordPress Enfold-theme) to Twenty Sixteen, and
2.) installing/activating all of the same plugins as are on the problematic School site (which, again, is based on the Genesis theme)

On this second website, I got a message on the Events page that reads:” [av_upcoming_events items=’3′ paginate=’no’]”. When I switched this second website back to the Enfold theme, and while leaving all of the same second website’s plugins activated as are on the School site, I saw that the sequence of the events on the Events page are in the correct order!

So, regarding the School site, and the cause of the Events Calendar plugin not displaying events in the correct sequential order, it looks like the conflict can only be with either the Genesis theme itself, or with the two Genesis-related plugins (Genesis Responsive Slider by StudioPress and/or Genesis Simple Edits by Nathan Rice).

Hopefully this is enough information to help you to find a workaround.

    Let me know.

    Thanks!

@brian, just following up to see if my latest post I provided you with has enough information for you to do a workaround on your end. Thanks.
