• Adding a TED shortcode, all I get is text

    [ted id=2046]

Other shortcodes seem to work ..

Anybody have a theory / quick checklist of what this could be?

Or even better want to take a look?

  • Where have you added it? Widget? Post Content? Page Content?

    What theme are you using?

I’m also fairly certain WordPress.com shortcodes do not work on .org self hosted sites:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/shortcodes/

I’m not 100% but fairly certain I tried a YouTube short code the other day to no avail, so I ended up writing my own.

I’d like to know where this particular shortcode came from?

It’s a WordPress.com shortcode, that link I posted above has them all.

I only know because I was trying the YouTube one in a plugin I was developing a few days ago , lol.

Ah! I missed your reply! That’s a useful list.

Ahh, ok. This is starting to make sense.

I didn’t realize this was going on with shortcodes ..

The embed code is from TED’s site …

Check out the video too, seriously cool – if icky!

THCB is here – in case you can tell anything by taking a quick look under the hood

    Addendum: added to post ..

I’m guessing the guys at TED / Medium don’t realize that their embed won’t work for people who aren’t hosted on wordpress.com. Is there a workaround?

It’s not really to do with the people over at TED. It’s more that the folks over at wordpress.com have added this shortcode feature into all of their themes/sites.

That’s true, but wonder if the guys at TED know about it …

    Is there a recommended fix?

Not that I have com across. Do you know if TED is an oEmbed-Enabled site? If it is, then you could embed videos just using the url by adding support for an oEmbed-Enabled site
