shortcodes removed in email subscriptions?

Most shortcodes need CSS and Javascript to be displayed properly on your site. These CSS and Javascript files are not part of the email that is sent to your subscribers, and the shortcode might consequently look bad in that email, or not display anything at all.

I’m afraid there is no easy solution to fix this issue. Could you give me more details about the shortcode you use in your posts?

The shortcodes are part of the ultimate book blogger plugin (https://creativewhim.com/shop/ultimate-book-blogger-plugin/). They show the book cover, blurb, author, etc information above the actual “post” section.

Thanks! Since the plugin is premium, I couldn’t check how the book descriptions are built, but I’m afraid it requires information from third-party services like Goodreads. This information won’t be available in a separate email, outside of WordPress.

To work around the problem, you could try to limit the content that is sent to your subscribers like so:

• If you go to Settings > Reading in your dashboard, you can change your Feed Settings to “Summary”. Once you save your changes, all subscription emails will only include an excerpt of your post, with a link to continue reading on the site.
• If your Feed settings are set to “Full Post”, you can split the content of each one of your blog posts in 2 parts thanks to the More tag:

  Everything that is above the More tag will appear on your home page and in the subscription emails, followed by a link inviting users to click to continue reading; everything that is below that tag will only appear on the post’s page.

That plugin page gives you a username and password to log into the demo account if you want to look around. All the information is typed directly into fields in wordpress (it doesn’t pull details from outside sources, just uses links). Basically since the book title, author, etc information is used in the plugin, the email subscribers receive just has the review details. So I feel it looks confusing to immediately start an email with “I thought this book…” (for example) without any details about the book.

Since the custom fields can only be accessed when in the WordPress installation, I’m afraid you won’t be able to insert them into the email.

You could set your RSS feed settings to “Summary”, and fill the “excerpt” box for each one of your posts. There you can include a small summary of your post, and why people should click to find out more about the book and your review.
