Shortcodes 'search' param doesn't work?

I’m trying to list files based on shortcode’s ‘search’ parameter.. and it just doesn’t work at all. I’ve tried with/without including category/id, tried search values of full/partial filename, tags, description text, custom fields, meta data- it always ignores the search parameter.

Is it even functional? What might cause it to fail?

Everything else about it seems to work as expected.
