Shortcodes ultimate suspect behaviour

    I found that this plugin was showing an unlisted youtube video from the developer in place of any of my videos sitewide being displayed via the shortcodes ultimate plugin.

    I spotted other people noticed the issue too here;

    I’ve since replaced all my video shortcodes to let WP’s native support handle it, and as soon as I get round to removing all the other old shortcodes I used it for, I will be removing the plugin permanently.

    But does nobody else think this was intentional bad behaviour from the developer? None of the YT video URLs on my site had been altered but all videos being displayed via this plugin shortcode were playing a crappy video about the plugin. The video is also unlisted on YT, which means it can only be seen via the link or embedding, but views still add to the YT channel overall stats.

    I think it was a very dodgy way to get a high number of views on one video (relatively high for an unlisted vid, +5k views) to increase the prominence of other videos in search results, at a time when WP.org was releasing more native shortcode features.

    If I’m wrong then so be it, but I’d love to hear from people with better technical understanding of how this could happen?

    The shortcode was very simple, just;
    [youtube “URL”] (without the quote marks)

    Correct syntax is something like this – [youtube url="..."]
