I’m currently using ShortPixel (which is great) and I’m in need of help to migrate and use WP-Optimize instead.

    1. From what I see Wp-Optimize looks at the images that were reduced by ShortPixel and clicking on compressing it I fear it will compress already compressed images and not the original images (which are stored in a folder that ShortPixel created).

What’s the migration path to move from ShortPixel to WP-Optimize?
A step by step actions would be great to avoid running compression on already optimized images.

    2. How do I tell WP-Optimize to also compress thumbnails? ShortPixel have this option.

    3. Didn’t see an option to tell WP-Optimize to “Optimize everything that wasn’t optimized before”. From the looks of it, I need to go image by image and do it..?

    4. On SHortPixel when I’m in the media list view, I have a column saying how much the image was reduced. Can we have something like that as well? Any plans to have it?

    Thanks you!

  • Hi there,

    1. Migrating from Shortpixel. If you enable “Automatically compress newly-added images” in the image compression settings, only the images the newly uploaded images will be compressed, leaving the old ones as-is.

If you want to avoid compressing the images several times, you can select all the images that you know are compressed in the list, and use the button “Mark as compressed”. This will let WP-Optimize know not to compress these images again.

    2. How do I tell WP-Optimize to also compress thumbnails? ShortPixel have this option.

This is done automatically, as most of the times, the thumbnails and other sizes are the ones used, and not the full size image.

    3. “Optimize everything that wasn’t optimized before”
There’s currently nothing to detect if an image was already optimize, apart from the step in 1).

    4. I have a column saying how much the image was reduced. Can we have something like that as well?
We’re not planning to have that yet, but I’ve added it on our list for future improvements.

    Marc.

Thanks for the comment! I suggest adding that to the documentation as ShortPixel is a popular plugin.
