• Hi,

I have read much in regards to backing up my WP db & theme. I have researched plugins & the Codex & checked topics in the forums yet I still have some questions. I backed up my db manually although I may choose a plugin to handle this. I also pickup Filezilla & downloaded my entire WP Content folder which contains themes, plugins, uploads, etc. Do I need to download anything else to be sure I have all of the necessary files & folders , just in case? Someone mentioned that I may possibly need one of the wp config folder as well. Also, I have the option of backing up all of my public_html content via my hosts backup feature. Not sure what method(s) are best.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • I would back up your database (I do it through phpmyadmin). I would recommend every month or perhaps more if you post more posts/pages than average.

You also need to backup any files that you will miss! Personally I backup every file on the server, including all the WordPress install files included the wp-config.php and the wp-content folder containing themes, uploads and plugins.

Backup your database and at least the files/folders listed in step 7 on this page:

Make sure that you also keep some older backup versions because you may not catch that the current data to be backed up is hacked or corrupted.

    Thanks,

The more I learn the more I think I should backup everything in my public_html folder in addition to my database. I have a few nice backup options with my host company that may be quicker than using a third party FTP client like Filezilla. I’ll need to do a bit more research & of course, I am still open to any additional suggestions. Thanks.
