While taking a look at the new Security Check Scan feature in iThemes > Settings > Global Settings > Proxy Detection and doing some reading it occurred to me that since none of my sites are using CloudFlare , then maybe instead of setting it to Security Check Scan , maybe I should be setting it to Disabled.

Aside from something like cloudflare, is there any reason proxy detection should be enabled?

    Hi @anotherdave,

Even if your site isn’t using a service like CloudFlare or StackPath, your site may be behind a proxy that your hosting company uses.

You can check this by selecting the “Disabled” option and waiting for the “Detected IP” field to refresh. If the listed IP address matches your IP address ( you can check this by googling “What is my IP address” ), then it should be safe to set Proxy Detection to Disabled and save your settings.

    Thank you @timothyblynjacobs

I run the servers / am the hosting company, so I can confirm they’re not behind a proxy or using any cloud services. And indeed when I set Proxy Detection to Disabled, it refreshes and shows my correct IP.

Thank you for the helpful & quick response!
