• The installation instructions advice to make sure WP-content/ and WP-content/uploads/ (temporarily) have 777 permissions before installing W3 Total cache.

Is this step necessary before every re-activation?

I ask because the installation of some other plugins like Autoptimize need temporarily disabling caching plugins during their installation.

    Thanks

hmmm … AO does not need that, the only thing you have to make sure about is that any minification-features in W3TC should be disabled (and stay that way).

Thanks for the reply. Actually I came across it in this article giving instructions on how to use the Autoptimize Inline & defer CSS options under Troubleshooting head if you scroll down half way.

    https://www.wpfaster.org/blog/how-to-use-autoptimize-inline-and-defer-css-option

    It says:

If you are using caching plugins, disable them while configuring the Autoptimize Inline and Defer CSS option; or, purge them after you have completed the configuration.

Yes I don’t use the minify feature in W3TC as I want to do that with Autoptimize.
