    Hello. I recently developed, and continue to maintain, a plugin in the WordPress plugin repo. I see that the WordPress 5.4 Release Candidate is available. At some point I will want to test my plugin with WordPress v5.4, ensure it is compatible, and mark my plugin as ‘tested through WordPress v5.4.’ But can I do that testing now? Or might v5.4 continue to change in a way that it would break compatibility with my plugin?

    Thanks.

    Usually its better to your plugin/theme with late beta’s.

    Here will be no major changes in RC, except bugfixes (if any) so you can test with it.

    @carlgross On behalf of those of us providing support here, thanks for being proactive and testing your plugin with the upcoming release!

    You’re more than welcome @sterndata. Just trying to do my part to maintain a healthy plugin ??

    So to both @fierevere and @sterndata, would you say it might be best to wait a little bit, for a later release of v5.4, before testing my plugin for compatibility?

    My plugin is relatively small and simple, so it probably won’t require too long to test.

    The RC is what will be the release unless they find bugs. At this point, it’s “feature complete” and is unlikely to break in new ways. So, test with RC1 and get the heavy lifting (if any) out of the way. Test again with the final RC towards the end of the month.

    @sterndata OK thanks for that.

    OK I can do that.

    OK sure. But will I know that the ‘final RC’ is in-place, and ready for my final test? Will there be a notification that the ‘final RC’ has been released?

    OK will so, thanks.

    We can consider this resolved.
