• I’m running Customizr using a child theme which is presently version 4.2.4. If I upgrade Customizr to version 4.3, will I lose the changes that I’ve made to the theme in customizing my website? I’m scared to press the update button unless I know what will happen!

  • Do you mean WP 4.3 OR Czr 3.4? (Confusing isn’t it !)

The whole point of a Child Theme is that any changes you’ve made will be protected from harm when updating.

So go ahead and update both. Safer to take a backup before you do on the small chance you have problems.

Ah, you’re right! Yes, it is a bit confusing! It was an update to WordPress 4.3 that I had seen and I’ve updated WordPress now with no problems.

I am also seeing an update to Customizr to version 3.4.6, Should I update Customizr as well? What is the benefit of doing so if I am using a child theme? If using a child theme protects my website from changes that might occur on updating, is there any benefit to be gained by updating?

    Thank you for your help.

My recommendation is that you should try to keep all your Themes and Plugins (and WP) up-to-date.

These are all authored to either fix issues or add new features that you will benefit from. As you say, the Child Theme protects any customisation you make and most authors try to maintain backward compatibility.

    So go ahead and update.
