First, thank you for the plugin. I’m using the free version. I use it to display one very simple Google map with two markers on it and it works perfectly.

I’ve just read through the changes you’ve made to version 3.8.6 and I’m worried that if I proceed with the upgrade the plugin will just stop working. Here’s why I’ve come to that conclusion.

I have not applied for a Google Maps API key. I’ve read through the Google link you’ve supplied in Settings and I really don’t understand it – it’s just too complicated for me. So I assume that this means I am using your public key. Is that correct?

If correct, then since 3.8.6 no longer supports the use of the public key, if I upgrade, your plugin will simply stop working. Is that correct?

I understand the issue of “security” with the public key and I would be happy to get my own key but looking at the link you’ve given in Settings of
    https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/tutorial#api_key
I’m not sure what to do. For example, at the beginning of this web page it says that the target Audience is for people who are familiar with Javascript programming – I know very little. This article also says “Don’t use if for Google’s API for Business”. I don’t know what that means.

Perhaps I have misunderstood who should be using your plugin. Do you have to be an expert in web development or can it be used by people like me who understand some concepts but are not experts?

  • Hi,
you can upgrade without any worries – the changes in v3.8.6 effect the MapsMarker API and not the Google API ?? The Maps Marker API allows you to programmatically use the functionality of the plugin via POST/GET requests – this is something completely different than the Google API key which is needed if you use Google maps in a commercial setup according to Googles TOS.
    best,
    Robert

    Hi Robert

Thank you for explaining that the upgrade only impacts the MapsMarker API and not the Google APi. I’ve upgraded to 3.8.6 now and everything is still working.
