Is it better to use PAGES or POSTS for an information site that will use hierarchical navigation (such as Category -> Subcategory -> Articles)

I want to AVOID using archive by date and I want to AVOID using tags / clouds for navigation.

I DO want to have user comments, so if it is easier to have comments on pages or posts, please let me know.

    I would like breadcrumb navigation.

At the category level, I would like to have text / content, and then links to the subcategories for that level.

At the subcategory level, I would like to have text, and then links to the articles in that subcategory

At the article level, I would like to have links in the sidebar to the sibling articles (the other articles in the same subcategory)

I would also like to have a simple URL structure. I would like to have:

    mysite.com/article-name-here

I do NOT want to have:

    mysite.com/category-name/subcategory-name/article-name-here

Would either PAGES or POSTS have any benefits or drawbacks?

Thanks in advance. sorry if I sound demanding! I am just trying to be concise!!!

It depends upon what type of site it is and what I’m doing with the page. A business type site would have numerous pages for their services, the home page, contact pages, etc. and usually a blog/news section of posts.

A news/magazine type site I would have posts on the front page, most of the content would be the posts themselves and much fewer pages.

I think of the posts as being for something you want more categorized… such as the blog, news, tutorials, etc.

For what you’ve said, I’d use posts. All you need to do is remove tags and archive links from your theme, and you won’t see them. Then just work by the categories, and you’ll have it set up how you want it to be.

    @ wplamp:

    Thank you for your reply.

It will be more like a tutorial site, so I am assuming POSTS is what you would suggest.

    Love your avatar!

Thanks for the confirmation of being able to remove tags and archive links.

    @ kINGslaveofallah:

Thank you for the link and for the confirmation.
