Show category on widget?

This would go into your theme’s functions.php or a file in wp-content/mu-plugins/

Thanks for the help. I just pasted the code into functions, but I can’t see the categories in the widget block.

Also try copying the tptn_list_cats.php file into the folderwp-content/mu-plugins/, but it can’t be seen.

My intention is that the category of each post in the Top Post widget could also show the category of that article. This is what I am trying to get:

Neither I didn see the option in the admin panel of the post.

I just ran the code again through my test install and I can see the category/tag being added – note that the tptn_list appears at the end of each item and not the beginning.

This shows the category of the post item in the list just after the title.

Many thanks, now i can see the categories bellow the title in the widget.
Is posible to show only one category? Because show all. I would like to show the primary category of the post, only one. Is that posible? limit the categories to show in the widget to 1. Thanks

i used ur code to show category and it works .. only problem is that it shows title, excerpt and category after that .. is there way to show category between title and excerpt?
