Show children from current taxonomy only?

Do you mean current term only? As in when a user has chosen a county and filtered the same dropdown now only shows the towns and cities from that county?

If so then you should be able to use the filter beautiful_filters_dropdown_categories found here: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/beautiful-taxonomy-filters/other_notes/

To modify the arguments for the wp_dropdown_categories (https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Function_Reference/wp_dropdown_categories) that the plugin uses.

So you could check the global $wp_query object what term you’re on and use that in the “child_of” parameter of the arguments to only get subterms for the current term.

However you should think about the fact that limiting this will make it impossible for the user to select a new county without completely clearing the filter first.

If you go to this link you’ll see what I mean https://www.eastlife.ooh-websites.co.uk/things-to-do/food-and-drink/ as I add lots mor towns the filter will become longer and longer. If I could just show all the parent taxonomies (counties) but then just children (towns and cities) for the current taxonomy then you could still navigate to areas but list of cities would only be shown as needed… Hope that makes sense?

I get what you’re trying to accomplish and you could do this by using the filter I’ve mentioned.

First you’ll check wether you already have a term from the locations taxonomy in the $wp_query object. Then if not you’ll want to show just the counties and thus set the depth parameter to 1. If there is one you fetch it’s ID and instead set the child_of parameter to that ID.
