show featured thumbnail image

in my code I have
<img src="<?php the_post_thumbnail(); ?>" alt="Featured Page"/>

the output of this is:

<img class="attachment-post-thumbnail wp-post-image" height="182" title="pour_pint" alt="pour_pint" 210"="" src="<img width=">
" alt="Featured Page"/>

why doesn’t this work?!
