Show only subpages when parent is active

  • I have this page hierarchy:

    A
    B
    – B1
    – B2
    – B3
    C

    What I am after is that the menu shows only the parents on pages A and C:
    A
    B
    C

    But when clicking on page B (or B1, B2, B3 after that), then it needs to show the full subtree of B:
    A
    B
    – B1
    – B2
    – B3
    C

    I spent an hour trying to get this to work, but I didn’t succeed. Can you help me out?
