Show Petition Popup box X button doesn't work

I put the petition form inside a modal box, so that when people click on a “Sign the Pledge” button, the form pops up in a modal box. When I click on “Read the Petition,” and the petition modal box comes up, the X button to get back to the petition form doesn’t work. However, clicking any other area on the screen does. Is there a way to get the X button to work, so it doesn’t confuse the users?
