    Hi,

I’m looking to improve page loading times, and one of the ways suggested is to load lower resolution photos or to serve scaled images.

I use the following code [wppa type=”photo” photo=”1848″ size=”auto” align=”center”][/wppa] to display a given photo within a frame on my home page.

Are there any settings in Album Admin, or parameters that I can add to the shortcode above, that would make the photos load in a lower resolution ?

    Thanks in advance,

    Laurence

During upload the image file to be used (the display file) can be resized (downsized) to reasonable pixel sizes, so a photo of 4000 x 3000 pixels can be resized to, say 1024 X 768. No quality loss for a webpage of 1024 pixels wide.

You can configure this in Table I-A2 and Table I-A3 on the Photo ALbums -> Settings admin page.

If you did not set this earlier, make sure Table I-A2 is ticked and select a max size suitable for you. The smaller the size, the lower the resolution and the smaller the file, but the fuzzier your image.
You can regenerate the display files after changing these settings; individually on the Album Admin -> Edit -> Edit photo information screen; click the ‘Remake files’ button.
To remake them all, run the maintenance proc in Table VIII-A11: Remake.

In single image displays, the image will be stretched to the desired display size; in slideshows it will not be stretched.

Thanks Jacob, that is exactly what I need to do – thanks for taking the time to show me which settings I need to set.

I have however hit a problem after I made the changes to the seeings – when I’ve gone into the Album and clicked ‘remake files’ it replied “could not remake files”

might I have setting wrong somewhere ?

Unfortunately you do not save the sources. If you have enough disk space on the server, tick the boxes in Table IX-H1 and 2 (Save source). For the future.

The edit photo information screen has for each photo the button ‘Re-upload file’.
If you still have the source of photo 1848, use this button to re-upload it and hence create the new (downsized) display file.

If you want this to do for all photos – and you still have the originals – you better ftp them to your depot ( .../wp-content/wppa-depot/<your login name>/ ), and use the Photo Albums -> Import Photos screen WITH THE ‘Update existing photos’ BOX TICKED.

BTW: On the Album Admin screen, the table of albums, there is a green (search) input field. if you enter an id there (e.g. 1848), you can edit him directly, without knowing the album.

Ah, right, I’ll set those settings for future uploads

As these photos are being hard coded to web pages, and not changed that often, I can easily manage by downloading and reloading them up at the newer smaller size.

    Thanks as always Jacob
