Hi, I use WP Nav Plus to show a sub-menu in a widgetposition. This works fine.
The sub-menu leads to categories. When I click on an item in one of these categories the submenu disappears. How can I get it to show on single posts to?
    Thanks, Tom

Hey Tom, here is a snippet from the FAQ I hope will help you out:

Will the WP Nav Plus menu stay even when I click into a blog post?

Yes, if the blog category/archive page is a part of that menu. So if you have the blog category “news”, you must add that category page to your menu structure in order for the menu to stay visible when viewing “news” posts.

Because a blog posts or other ‘single’ pages do not exist in the menu, WP Nav Plus will try multiple methods to find the appropriate navigation parent item that the post belongs to.

    Hi Matt,
What does ‘if the blog category/archive page is a part of that menu’ mean? Do I have to add ALL posts of a category to the menu or just the category. The last is true but the sub-menu doesn’t show in the single posts of any category.
    Thanks, Tom

Edit: when I add the post to the menu it does work, however adding all post to the menu is a lot of work. Is there another way to make this work?

An example of a category page would be: https://example.com/category/news/.

The plugin can also search for other taxonomy archive pages besides just the ‘category’ taxonomy using the same format: https://example.com/taxonomy/term/

The plugin also checks for the ‘page_for_posts’ in the menu to find your main blog post page as a possible parent to a single post. That url may be something like https://example.com/blog/ depending on your permalinks.

The plugin checks for custom post type archives, so you could also have a URL in your menu like https://example.com/custom-post-type-slug/ which serves as the ‘archive’ page for a custom post type.

Do you want to share more information about how you are entering your post archive page into the menu structure?

On https://hvdha.com/20/ (you need to login with kijker and kijker) you see 5 categories under Projecten. When you click on Cultuur in the sub-menu you get a page with one item (in categories Projecten and Cultuur). When you click this item, the sub-menu disappears on the single post page.

When you click Stadsontwerp in the sub-menu you also get one item but this one is IN the menu (as as sub-sub-item), when you click this item the sub-menu remains visible.

Edit: okay, I see what might be wrong. I load the items in a page with https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/ultimate-addons-for-gutenberg/
This is probably why your plugin can’t recognise the category.

I was just about to say that it doesn’t look like you are using WordPress archive pages, but instead regular ‘pages’ which are treated differently in WordPress. It looks like you figured that out already.

If you migrate over to a more traditional category page or archive type page the plugin should be able to detect the parents in the sub-menu..

hi, matt, your blog is very useful for me
One question,if the website structure will be okay if 2 subcategorys are the same.
    sample: https://www.mychway.com
the subpage of treatment menua and blog menua are the same. if this structure will be okay?

    Thanks

I haven’t specifically tested that, but I don’t think you would run into issues.

Thanks for your fast response. I’ll follow your blog always
    Again thanks for response.
